How Big Will My Puppy Get?

Both breeds are small and compact which is one of the main reasons for the popularity of the mixed breed. The size that they attain is from 9 to 12 inches and they can get to be about 10 to 15 lbs in weight when they are fully grown. They generally live up to an age of 12 years which can be prolonged to 15 years if the dog is very healthy.

What Will The Coat Be Like?

They have a variety of coat colors most of them being the lighter shades. The puppies may have colors which may not be retained when they become adults. The dogs have thick coats which are made up of fine inner hairs whereas the outer part may be curly giving them the look of a cute teddy bear which makes them very sought-after.

Are There Any Specific Coat Concerns Should Be Aware Of?

None at all really, because very little hair will be shed leaving your house clean. In fact it is a preferred mixed dog breed for those who suffer from allergies due to this feature of the dogs. You need to brush their coat daily because if you do not do so, the fur will get matted and will become difficult to manage. An occasional haircut can also be carried out every 6 to 8 weeks.

What Will My Dog's Personality Be Like?

The Shih Tzu Bichon dogs are very intelligent and can be taught a lot of tricks when they are puppies. They are also very active and remain extremely energetic throughout their lives. They are very brave and make for excellent guard dogs. The Shichons prefer the company of people and do not like to be left alone.

Many owners of these dogs have found housebreaking to be a little difficult and they have to be trained very early on. Although they are very intelligent they can acquire a mind of their own and become a bit stubborn. But it all depends upon the training that is imparted and if trained properly they can become wonderful dogs.

How Much Exercise Will My Dog Need?

You can take the dog on daily walks and engage them in a variety of activity. It will be enough if you have a bit of space at home where the dog can remain active by playing. In any case, the dog will not remain stationary for long periods of time and will keep moving around and will usually follow you about when you move around the house. They usually adapt to your movements and will accompany you when you go outside for a walk. A walk or a short game of catch will be enough exercise for the dog.

What Are Common Health Concerns?

The dog will enjoy very good health and there is nothing to worry about. The parent breeds sometimes suffer from breathing issues occasionally and there are some rare skin issues inherited from the Bichon.

How Do I Know If These Dogs Are Right for Me?

The Shih Tzu Bichon is becoming more and more popular because of its great looks and low maintenance. Besides, they are ideal companions especially for people who live alone. They are a nice addition to a family and do well with kids around. These dogs are highly energetic and can play for hours without getting tired. Being small and furry they are very hard to resist but they can be a bit stubborn at times and need to be trained well as puppies. You must make sure that you socialize the puppy right from the beginning and continue training it as it grows older.
