Is It Cruel To Let Dog Wear Costumes?

All of us know that dogs naturally do not need to wear clothes. They already have fur as protection and covering. There are some people who may contemplate the question on whether is it a cruel act to clothe dogs with coverings and costumes. It totally depends on individual's views and opinions. However we should clarify the difference between real clothes and dog costumes. In addition to this, we should also note the frequency, period of time and how the dog is wearing it. Here we are not demanding that the fact it is a purely cruel act nor advocate against these costumes.

Dog costumes are usually put on for specific occasions or events, for example Halloween Day. It is just for a certain period of time. It would not consider as an abusive act towards the pet if it intends for a short time and not for long wear. It is actually a creative way to present your pet and let it have some fun. If an individual has an obsession to tailor real clothes for his or her dog and force it to wear it, then it will be consider as wicked act. For if the dog is in warm weather, more covering will cause the dog turns agitated as it will be lack of comfort. But if both owner and the dog are happy with the costumes, there should not be much opposition.

There is one way to ensure it is not abusive and cruel to let a pet to wear dog costumes. It is by making sure the costume is not causing discomfort to the dog. If there is intention to make the costume by your own, do choose fabric that will not restrict breathing and tighten to the body. If there is use of ribbons, strings or frills, make sure it will not cause tripping or tying to the dog. In the end, if the dog is comfortable with it, then it is not cruel at all.
