5 Ways To Cure Beabull Puppies Fear Of Thunder

Nobody really knows what makes one dog more afraid of thunder than the other. What we do know is that this fear is universal - it is not limited to one specific breed or size of dog. We have heard that quite a few Beabull puppies are afraid of thunder. Here are 5 easy ways to help ease your puppy's fear of the "booms".

1. Blocking out the sounds of the storm is usually a quick way to keep your Beabull puppy calm. If you know a storm is on the way, try turning up the TV or radio. Although experts aren't sure if the sound or the vibrations are what send our dogs into tremors. Either way, another noise for your dog to focus on will help to keep him calmer.

2. Dogs usually react in 2 different ways during a storm. There are those that follow you around panting, pacing and trembling and there are those that just want to hide in the bathroom or under the bed. If your Beabull puppy is one that wants to hide, let him. Hiding makes your pup feel more protected. When your dog is one that follows you around the hose, do not scold him. This will only make him more nervous. However, you do not want to coddle him either as this will make him think there is something to fear. Talk and treat him as you normally would when there is not a storm occurring.

3. Distraction can be a great tool as well for some dogs. Before the storm rolls in, start playing with your Beabull puppy such as throwing the ball, playing tug or practicing his training exercises. As the storm gets closer, you may be more interesting than his fear of the storm. Eventually, your puppy may start associating storms with positive things and his anxiety will lessen.

4. For some dogs, their fear and anxiety is too strong for any of these tips to help them. If that's the case and your dog has a paralyzing fear of thunder and storms, you may want to talk to your vet about medications that can be given during storms. There are many herbal remedies that your vet can recommend as well.

5. Some smaller dogs, such as Beabull puppies, respond well to being swaddled like a baby. Wrap your dog in a towel or blanket and hold him on your lap until the storm passes or he calms down. This helps him to feel safe and protected.
