Feeding Your Boxer Dog

There is a vast array of commercial dog foods that you can choose from in order to satisfy your Boxer's never ending appetite! Feeding your dog a diet containing all the essential nutrients is a must but how do you know if the diet you are feeding is adequate?

Like you see in humans, your dog can experience similar digestion problems if they are continually fed the wrong type of food. If your Boxer is constantly having abnormal bowel movements then you should consider changing the diet or consulting your local Vet.

The quality of commercial dog food diets can vary enormously between the different brands therefore you should study the ingredients carefully to ensure your dog is getting enough good nutrients.

To ensure your dog is receiving a nutritious and balanced diet you may want to consider feeding them a home cooked diet.

Protein is a must in the diet although its best to leave out fish because of the potential problems with bones, but chicken and beef are good. In the wild dogs are in fact omnivores which means that not only do they eat meat but they also east some dry grasses and fruits if available therefore you need to include these in your diet. Some good ones to consider are potato, carrot, pumpkin and so on.

The amount that you need to feed your dog is dependent on how big or small they are. To make sure your dog is maintaining a healthy weight the best thing you can do is to monitor their weight closely and adjust the amount of their food accordingly.

You can make your Boxer work for its food as a way of keeping them entertained. You can hide their food in various toys and make them figure out how to get it out or you can ensure that you walk them before you feed them their dinner.
