This is a cross breed between the Cocker Spaniel and the Golden Retriever. The cross breed is also referred to as the Golden Cocker Retriever. The International Designer Canine Association recognized the breed in 2009 and since then it has been extremely popular. They?re very intelligent dogs and have the best traits of their parents. They usually live about 13 years and appear to be a lot like a parents.
Designer dog is the term used to describe crossbreeds between two popular dogs. They are a mix of two purebred dogs and will contain characteristics of both their parents. While with a purebred dog you will know what you?re getting when you buy a designer dog you will not be able to be absolutely sure of how the dog will look or its temperament. Designer dogs are preferred by those who do not want to have two dogs but at the same time find it difficult to choose between two popular breeds of dogs.
These Golden Cocker Retrievers usually gain height of 17 inches and weigh up to 40 lbs. The height and weight may vary depending upon how they are brought up and the resemblance to their parents.
The Cocker Spaniel Golden Retriever has a long coat which is feathered on the ears. The shedding of hair is average and the coat may need to be brushed on daily basis.
The hair may come out while brushing and hence you need to be careful. Also they may sometimes have skin problems which can be treated easily.
These are very friendly dogs and are extremely good-natured. They also highly intelligent and can learn new tricks easily. They inherit the qualities of their parents and are loyal and gentle. Cocker Golden Retrievers are very good with children as well as adults and are easy to train. If they are well-trained they are also able to get along very well with other dogs.
You must never train them roughly or make loud noises since they can get stressed very easily. It is an excellent family dog breed and they are also very friendly with strangers in addition to their own family members and other familiar people.
Being very friendly they are not suitable to become watchdogs. There is a high chance that they will welcome all strangers without even barking and will wag their tails. They need a lot of human attention and like to spend time with the family in the house.
Golden Cocker Retrievers require regular exercise and if you have kids around the house you can engage them with games. They like to play a lot including fetch the ball and other games. Just like Golden Retrievers they need plenty of exercise including long walks or runs. If you neglect exercise they will tend to become obese which can create health issues. They?re very good apartment dogs and also active indoors.
They inherit health issues from their parents including liver disease, hip dysplasia and heart disease. They can also have skin problems which are caused by an allergy. Some of these dogs get pancreatitis which will eventually lead to diabetes. Back pain and paralysis may also be seen in these dogs. Besides, if you have a dog which is obese it can have weight related health issues.
The Golden Cocker Retriever displays characteristics of both the Golden retriever and a cocker spaniel. They usually medium sized dogs and need some space around the house for their activity. They also very intelligent and can be trained easily becoming very loyal and social dogs. They tend to get along well with children and all family members. You can also use them as watchdogs and they bark when they see strangers approaching. If they get good exercise and are well cared for you will not need to worry about any health concerns.
