Walking Your Dog Properly

25 16:04:52

Many of us take care of dogs in our own home, aside from being a pet, they can instantly make your home more secure. And with providing them water, food and shelter they can give us more than what we bargained for. But one thing that most people miss is that, dogs, like humans also need exercise, so, now we have two reasons to walk early in the morning, no escape for any of us.

Preps and Props - There are a couple of things we need to prepare if we want to take our dog on walks.

Collar and Leash - People say that we need to have the right kind of collar before we can take our dogs on walks, but the collar does not really matter, what matters is the cooperation between us and the dog. So they need to know that the purpose of going out is to walk and not to sniff around. Make sure the leash is short.

Water and snacks - This is one important thing to prepare, water for both of you and some snacks for him to reward him for good behavior on occasions.

Doggie Bag and Broom - Some places require you to clean up after your dog, and also, it is common sense that we should clean up after our own mess, well theirs technically.

Proper Walking - If you have not tried walking your dog before then you might want to start training your dog to follow you when walking. Train him slowly by using a long leash, make him follow you, and then little by little shorten it until your dog is comfortable to a length that is suitable for walking.

Position - You should be ahead your dog to show dominance, or beside him, make sure he is on the inside and not towards the road.

Pace - This would depend on you, whether you would want to jog or to just walk, but remember to take break in between, reward him by letting him sniff around and do his stuff, and there should also be water breaks. Make sure you get at least 30 minutes of walking/running up to an hour.

When you get home from your walk make sure you prepare a reward in form of a meal for your dog, make sure you get to eat too! And remember, try to have fun when you are out walking, your dog can sense negative emotions and can manifest them, nobody likes an aggresive dog!

Walking our loyal companion is not only beneficial in terms of health but it can also strengthen our bonds with them. So, prepare you collars and leashes, and start an early morning routine with your dogs!
