Worst of all, your dog will start biting to vent his frustration. This behavior might be confusing for you, especially since you love your dog and will do anything to keep him happy. That once cute, playful little puppy is now suddenly turning on you.

The thing is, dogs are born with pack behavior embedded in their brains, and from day one are being taught by their mother, siblings, and other members of the pack, all about the rules and regulations of the pack as a whole. Suddenly, when this puppy is eight weeks old, it is removed by a human from its mother and his pack environment, into an unfamiliar world, where all the rules he knows and understands, don't apply anymore. This is normally where things go wrong. No dog, as part of a pack, can live without a leader, and if you do not become his pack leader in his new human environment, then he will. Once your dog takes on the role as the leader of the pack in your household, then it means that if you do something that he does not like, he will retaliate as any other pack leader would do and growl, bite you, or even both.

The fact that you give him food and a warm bed to sleep in does not make you his leader. Leadership among animals is exactly the same as in the human world and has to be earned, so placing a bowl of food in front of your dog is definitely not enough. This is where both you and your dog can benefit from dog obedience training. You get to understand how to be a pack leader, and your dog gets to learn the rules and regulations of his new human pack. Misunderstandings between you and your dog are eliminated, neither of you become frustrated, and best of all, your dog will not be aggressive and cause serious injuries through biting.
