Don’t Hesitate to Give Your Dog a Massage

Giving your dog a massage is not only good for him, but also an excellent way to bond with your best friend.

Ahhhh. There’s nothing like a massage for a bit of stress relief. Ever wonder if your dog might like one?

“Dogs tend to take on their owner's stresses and tension. Massage helps relieve that," said Anne Martin, a certified massage therapist and Reiki teacher at Topnotch, a resort and spa in Stowe, Vermont. The spa recently added "Rover Reiki" to its menu.

"Reiki re-balances a dog's inner energy and well-being," said Martin.

As pet-friendly hotels become increasingly popular, more are adding dog massages to their spa menus.

From quaint inns like Pennsylvania's Hotel Fauchère, and California's Casa Laguna Inn & Spa, to elaborate properties like Colorado's Peaks Resort & Golden Door Spa, dogs are being treated to relaxing rubdowns.

Perhaps most impressive is Florida's Don CeSar Beach Resort, where the pet bodywork program includes eight services, from Swedish massage to acupressure.

For those not sure what to choose, The Ritz-Carlton in Sarasota, Florida, will customize a massage just for Spot.

Always make sure that your pet's therapist is state-certified in canine massage before you book.
