Who Will Board Your Dog When You Pass On? Is Your Dog In The Will?

Hi Everybody, My name is Yvonne and I own and operate Cozy Pawz Cage Free Dog Boarding in Davie, FL. I have been a dog owner and caregiver for over 30 years and during that time, I have come to learn exactly the kind of love and attention that dogs need on a daily basis. A question people ask me all the time is what happens to my dog if I die before he does? Its a great question if you really think about it. When thinking about your dog, or any pet for that matter, in case of a tragedy, many people make verbal agreements with friends and family. However, as we all know, verbal agreements are not the ones that frequently get honored. If you really want to make sure your desires for your pets future are carried out, you will need to treat this as a serious legal matter. There are many ways to set up your pets future officially and legally. The best ways are thru a will, a trust or any other legal estate planning document. The main difference between the will and the trust is that the trust will be effective immediately and can be used not only if you die but also if you become disabled . A will is different and will only be executed upon your death. No matter what method you choose, the first thing you need to do is pick that special caregiver or caregivers who you can trust and who you know will love your pet. Make sure these are people who are familiar with and understand the responsibility of taking care of a pet. Of course, the preference would be who are pet owners themselves. As a backup or plan B, you should have alternative caregivers in case the first one becomes unable or unwilling. Remember, that the new owner will have full discretion over your pets care; make sure you pick someone you trust. Now that you have your caregivers selected, you will need to funds from your estate to compensate the caregiver for making sure the pet is cared for properly and comfortably. A good way to do this is by making sure the executor of your estate can make spending decisions of your pets behalf. If you just can t find a caregiver, there are some facilities that specialize in long term care of pets when the owners die. These organizations will try to find a new home for your pet or take care of him/her until he/she dies. However, this option, should be the last on your list. As animal lovers, we know nobody will love our pets as we do, so make sure you do something before it is too late. If you do not do anything, your pet will be taken to the dog shelter and we all know what happens there. So not procrastinate, take action.
