Tips For Bathing Your Dog

A man's best friend is his dog. And, don't you always want to treat your best friend with the utmost care and consideration. When bathing your dog, do you pull out the water hose connected to the outside spicket spraying your beloved pet down with icy cold water? Would you hand your best friend the hose when they ask to shower at your home? Moreover, would you hand that same best friend just any old towel to dry off with or would you make it a point to make sure your friend received the same care you give yourself?

Any dog lover wants the best for their pet and bath time is no different. Bath time can be a scary event for many dogs so taking the best care is of utmost importance. You want to start off by preparing the items you will need for your dog's bath. Be sure to have a good dog shampoo handy, some good absorbent towels ready and fill the tub with warm water. You will want to have a hand shower or hose connected to the faucet to allow you to wash your dog in all their hidden areas and be able to rinse them well. Leaving any soap residue will cause your dog to itch and be uncomfortable.

Once you have assembled the needed supplies, place your dog into the tub and generously wet him down. His fur needs to be nice and wet in order for the shampoo to lather properly. Once the dog is wet place a generous amount of the shampoo in your hands and begin to massage it all over your dog. You may need to hold and comfort him with one hand and massage the shampoo with the other if your dog is nervous. A flea and tick shampoo is a good idea especially during the summer months. Make sure to use a calming and reassuring voice and tell your dog that everything is okay and that he is a good dog, over and over again to keep him calm. Be careful not to get the soap in the dog's eyes, but also be sure you wash the fur around his face. Rinse and then repeat to make sure your dog is thoroughly clean.

A specially made extra absorbent towel that is designed for pets will make the job easier. Some of them have cool pockets that you can slip your hands in so the towel doesn't slip while you dry your dog. The pockets enable you to get a better grip on your dog so drying of his ears, belly, and wet paws are a breeze, not to forget that whipping wet tail. When one set of pockets have done their job simply switch to the next set to finish the final touches. If two sets of pockets not enough to get the job done, you simply turn the towel inside out and have four fresh pockets to use to clean and dry your dog.
