2. Use handsaw to cut the 2 x 4 boards according to the measurements, i.e. 2 pieces for the length and 2 pieces for the width of the house. Use hammer and nails to attack the pieces together to make a bottom.
3. Cut a piece of ply board using hand saw. This should be adequate to cover the base. Nail it over the edges of the bottom to make the floor.

5. Measure the ply board and mark the size walls with a pencil then cut.
6. For the front piece, signify a door large enough for the dog to pass through and use the saw to cut it out.
7. Nail the walls around the outline using your hammer and nails.
8. Take roof measurements with your tape measure then cut the matching sizes of 2 x 4 boards.
9. Center the front and back struts on the border of the front and rear walls and affix them in place.
10. Cut a piece of 2 x 4 to the length of the doghouse with a little extra to hang over. Nail it in position on the top.
11. Cut three rafters for each side of the roof. To do this, take a piece of 2 x 4 board and place it beside the roof from the corner of the dog house. Make notch marks using a jig saw then cut with the handsaw where you made the notches. Nail them in position.

14. Affix shingles on the roof using a sharp knife to trim edges where needed. When the roof is finished your doghouse is complete.

Tips:

Bear in mind the breed of dog you are building for as this will influence the size of the house and other characteristics such as insulation.
The house should be big to accommodate the dog and still have sufficient space. If your dog is a puppy, build the house big enough to hold him when he is full-grown.
Paint the doghouse to make it more appealing.
