Does your dog or is constantly scratching? Then the time has come for you to give the most needed cleaning it requires. It is important to set a regular bath time for your canine right from the puppy age. There may be initial resistance from your pup to the cleaning process but slowly it will start enjoying the bath time.

Gathering all items needed for cleaning beforehand is very essential like dog shampoo , conditioner, towel, soap , sponge etc. so that it is close by and handy to use and also the chances of it getting and splashed by the pet is minimized. In case of pets suffering from sensitive skin problems it is advisable to use lukewarm water. Having a helper to clean the dog really helps to make the dog stay in one place while cleaning it.

Most dogs enjoy brushing and regular cleaning session once they get used to it. Cleaning of pets in regular interval helps to keep them clean, healthy and manageable. It also prevents periodontal disease and yeast infections due to matted hair thus making the coat and hair of your dog healthy and shiny. Neglect of regular cleaning leads to heavy hair fall in dogs and cats.

  • Dogs with long hair usually require daily brushing to prevent matting and tangling of hair.

  • Medium-haired dogs may be prone to matting and tangles and require brushing at least twice a week.

  • Dogs with typically short hair can go without brushing up to a month.

Almost all dogs shed hair, except dogs belonging to a few specific breeds .It is their way of shedding their excess heavy coat when there is change in outside temperature. Spring is the time when dogs usually shred their skin but in case of illness or stress, unusual shredding of hair coat may take place which requires immediate attention and treatment.

The best way to avoid excessive shedding of hair by your pet friend is by brushing its coat daily. This helps to get rid of dirt, dander, loose hair and odor causing body oil. Regular brushing helps to stimulate the pooch’s skin and makes the skin look shinier and healthy. Giving a bath before brushing helps to loosen the shedding hair making the next brushing session much easier.

When your pet is in the process of shedding, following measures help:

  • Protect your furniture. Washable couch covers helps in protecting your furniture as they can be washed easily and it becomes easier to keep hair away from furniture .and upholstery. It is advisable to wash them every week during the shedding season of your pet.

  • Another way to restrict the spread of dog hair everywhere by providing your dog with a good dog bed.

  • A specialized vacuum cleaner designed to remove pet hair off carpet and upholstery is a must have for every dog owner.

For people who are averse to the idea of cleaning the mess and the extra work created by their furry pet during the shedding period, it is always wise to choose a pet of non-shredding breed like poodle, ilk terrier, shih tzus and ihasa apsos. These breeds do not shed their coat, hence the only disadvantage being they need regular grooming and care.
