Dogs love treats. There are lots of varieties of dog treats available such as candy, chocolate or any packaged pet snack but problem with these is the high cost and are not healthy too.

To overcome this problem you can use some fruits and vegetable as a healthy dog treat. Fruits and vegetable are healthiest foods which are low calorie, low fat and dense calories, just as like an ideal dog treat. As these are made from natural sources they are available at affordable cost which can fulfil all nutritional requirements of dogs.

Why to give healthy dog treat?

Giving a good treat will satisfy dog. It can play a role to build relationship between you and the dog. During training you can give good health treat after completion of task. This will be an inspiration for the dog to do training or any task. To achieve daily nutritional needs of dog and to appreciate dog for good behaviour is also the best way.

Which are the best healthy dog treats available -

We can start with rewarding a dog by giving what we eat daily e.g. fruits and vegetable. With the exception of citrus fruits all fruits are healthy because citrus fruits may lead to upset stomach. Just make sure never feed whole fruit with a pit or seeds intact. Seeds can lead to gastric issues and the pit can cause choking. Cut fruits and vegetable into pieces, remove seed from it and then feed to dog.

2) Garlic and onions: These both have chemical properties that can be toxic to dogs.
3) Tomatoes
4) Avocado
5) Wild Mushrooms
6) Fruits with pits e.g. peach, cherries, and plums.
7) Nuts.

Take some precautions -

Feeding too much dog treat may create health problems. The best time to give treat is in between breakfast and meal time. If you are giving regular treat then reduce food during meal time to match the daily calorie need.
