Read Your Cat's Actions

How long have you possessed a cat? Has it been ages ago or just recently? If you have been together with a cat for several days or decades, you may have noticed that it has a set of strange behaviors. Though they may have a reason for acting the way they do, not all pet owners understand why their cats act in an odd way. The problem is some cat owners do not understand their cat's behavior and this, later on, leads to problems in keeping their cat healthy and happy. It may be tricky to determine what your cat means when it acts differently but there are methods to uncover your kitty's mysterious behavior.

You probably have noticed your cat pushing a thing (for example, cabinet, bench, table leg) or an individual. Then it rubs its head against the person or object. The pushing and rubbing are done by the cat so that it can apply a touch of its spit on the person or thing. Once it does this, that means that individual or thing is marked as its property. Those who do not like cats may find this behavior rather annoying. The individual or object may look strange for the kitty because it is new to its perspective and so it marks the person or object as its possession.

For the cat, it serves it well to do this pushing and rubbing behavior. However, some people have allergies to saliva while others may have pet peeves. They will try to get rid of the saliva because it irritates them. There may be occasions when they will succeed. But then, the cat will simply push, rub and lick the individual once more if it cannot distinguish this person as its property. This will really serve as a problem for the individual with allergies or with pet peeves. As a cat owner, you have to give explanation to your guest why it does this behavior that it is a kind of welcome greeting for the cat. If possible, tell the person to allow the cat to rub on him. If the cat has been successful in leaving its mark on the guest, it will eventually leave the person alone.

It is usual for cats to hunt. Do not be shocked if your cat is staring out the window, making strange sounds and doing queer movements. This is just your cat on its paws preparing to hunt. If your cat sees a cat or some movement, it will readily be on its paws. Again, this should be no cause for panic as it is just a normal cat behavior.

There are people who find it perplexing why cats pounce at objects. Pouncing is one of a cat's favorite pastimes. Pouncing is part of play for them. This behavior is commonplace and should not be stopped unless you want trouble later on. If you try to stop this behavior, you and your cat might do a lot of smashing up in the house. One way to manage how your kitty plays is to get toys that it could pounce on. A yarn or a string may even be enough for it to play with. Your cat will surely enjoy your company as it runs after the yarn or string.

You will handle your cat better if you know how to read your kitty's body language. Do more than simply feeding your cat and providing it litter. Though cats cannot communicate like humans do, if you pay attention to your pets action, you will get to know what it is saying.
