Jock Itch Treatment

I needed jock itch treatment to help me cure my jock itch. This ailment isn't the greatest thing to live with and its very annoying and uncomfortable. I'm very active and sweat more the average and that was the cause I'm sure. I didn't feel the need to go to the doctor because this particular ailment isn't that serious.

Jock Itch Treatment

1-Keeping your groin area clean and dry is the most important point in treating jock itch. You should also wear loose fitting clothing that allows air to penetrate the area. Tight fitting pants will only aggravate the problem.

2-Some products that can be used as a home remedy for jock itch include the various powders and creams that are available at places like Walgreen's.

3-Lamisil makes an excellent spray, powder or cream that works quite well. I've used the powder and it took away the itching and burning in only a couple of days.

Many other natural cures for jock itch are also available which cost less and produce marked results. Calendula ointment is quite soothing and works well in this case. Intake of 500-600 ml. of cat's claw extract three times a day is advised until the infection subsides. Cat's claw has antifungal properties and improves the body immune system.

Symptoms of Jock itch:

1-A circular, red, raised rash with elevated edges.

2-Itching and redness in your groin, including your genitals, inner thighs, buttocks and anal area.

3-Flaking, peeling or cracking skin in your groin.

4-Abnormally dark or light skin.

Jock itch can be treated by physicians after they take samples from your skin. A sample of your infected skin when placed under a microscope can easily reveal whether you have contracted this disease. A sample of your skin can be taken after the skin lesion biopsy test, which is also known as the Punch biopsy or the shave biopsy.

These are characterised by red patches defined with dark borders. These patches are raised, form scales and can also ooze. Patches are in the shape of a ring and their colour is darker at the edges than at the centre. Normally, jock itch is simply identified by seeing the condition of the skin, but in case of doubt, the fungus can be identified by performing a biopsy.

The best treatment for jock itch is to get rid of the fungi itself. You have to avoid scratching the affected area, as this can spread the fungi. Excessive scratching will also break the skin and make you more susceptible to infection. You will also have to launder your clothes properly, especially your underwear, as this will keep you from contracting even more infections, and it can keep the fungal spores out of your closet.

The fungus that causes jock itch is called the Trichophyton rubrum. It thrives in damp, closed and warm areas such as the groin and prefers the dead cells of the upper skin layer. It first appears as a rash on the skin that is very itchy. If left unattended, it can spread.

Natural cures for jock itch include poultices of peppermint, oregano, or lavender. Tea tree oil, diluted with a carrier oil of almond oil can be applied to the rash several times per day. Washing with the diluted juice of a freshly squeezed lemon can help dry up the rash.

Symptoms of Jock Itch:

If you discover an itchy area of redness in a skin fold the infection has begun. Sores may develop in a random pattern. You may even see tiny pimples or pustules with parts that are red and dry. Small scales may develop.

The infection becomes more irritating as time goes by. In severe cases, the skin breaks down and the whole condition becomes very uncomfortable.
