Some Ideas For Traveling With Dogs

Currently many people choose to take their dogs with them when traveling. There are several things that should be considered when taking your dog on a trip such as food and type of dog travel carrier. Here are a few things to plan before the next trip with your dog.

1. What mode of transport will be used?

You cannot use Greyhound and Amtrak as only service dogs are allowed on their service.

You have most control when driving since it is your own controlled environment. When you make stops however you will need more than just a basic gas station. Make sure the areas you stop off at are suitable for walking your dog.

2. Did you check with the airline?

When traveling by plane it may be a bit more difficult. Planning will help to reduce stress and time wastage. Direct flights will be the best option as there will be minimal delays.

Most airlines have strict guidelines with regards to animals on their aircraft. They usually list specifics such as type of dog travel carrier etc. You should review these on the airline website or over the phone.

3. Has your dog traveled before?

It is a good idea to get your dog ready psychologically for traveling. For example, if your dog only travels in a car to the vet then he may not be comfortable during long drives. You should take your dog on short fun trips such as the beach or the park. Your dog should be in a healthy condition to travel, make sure he gets a checkup from the vet before traveling. You should also know how comfortable your dog is around other people since your dog will encounter others when traveling.

4. Do you have his regular supplies?

Make sure to take the same food your dog normally eats. Feeding your dog different types of food may be disruptive so make sure to continue his regular diet throughout the trip. Filtered water will be good, you should not take chances giving your dog local water.

I hope these tips allow your trips to go a little smoother.
