Effective Dog Kennel Training, Can it Work?

2016/5/4 10:35:34

When it comes to dog kennel training, there is a lot of controversy that surrounds it. Many people believe crates, cages, and kennels are the quickest way to punish the dogs. However, dog kennel training is not as bad as most people think, depending on how it is used.

For instance, it is not a good idea to put your dog in a kennel to train for every bad thing they do. Also, keep in mind, dogs can't be in the kennel for more than four hours since they need to stretch and do their business. Many dogs will start to feel uncomfortable in one place and begin to get anxious. If you aren't using the kennels properly, you will end up with more problems than you had started with.

To really make the use of the kennel effectively, you need to first identify the problem. Are you using the kennel for chewing? Housebreaking? Making a mess? Once you figured out what the problem is, you will be able to utilize the kennel much more to your advantage.

All dogs should feel comfortable when they are in the kennel. This means there should be a bowl of water and food available to them. If the dog has a chewing problems, chew toys should be placed in there. This is the only place where the chew toys should be placed also. If you see your dog chewing on something outside the kennel, don't shout at him, but instead show him the chew toy and place him in the kennel. Eventually, he will learn that chewing is allowed only on the chew toys.

If you are using kennel training for housebreaking, it might be a bit harder. Since most dogs will not do their business where they sleep, you will need to keep an eye for when they need to go. Once they go to do their business, praise them and give them a treat. This will motivate them to go do their business outside.

Dog kennel training needs a lot of attention and is usually aimed at dogs that are stubborn and hard to train. If you use kennel training for the right reason, there's no reason to think caging up a dog is cruel. Kennels are expensive and you should use this method of training if you really need to.

Remember, by rewarding your dog for all his good deeds, along with a lot of praise, showing your love and affection to your pet will make your dog's training go much smoother.
