Puppy and Dog Tricks Teach Your Dog Basic Tricks

Dog tricks are a great source of fun for both the dog and owner. Basic tricks can be easily learnt by your dog and offer great amusement to all that watch. Often tricks the dog learns are behaviors that they already have, but you are asking for them to do it on a command. Examples of these are things like "yawn" Your dog yawns naturally, so all you do is as you see the dog yawn say "yawn" and make a fuss of your dog. This may take time but eventually the dog will yawn to command, which can give you both a great sense of achievement, and maybe some laughs along the way.

Another trick is called "dig" or "find the treasure" here you are using your dogs instincts to dig and their great sense of fun. Start with a few treats under a cloth and encourage your dog to paw off the cloth, as soon as your dog paws the cloth give a treat and praise. Your dog will soon learn this new fun command, and you can have a lot of fun digging together. Just a warning here if your dog is a big fan of digging up your garden this may not be a good idea to teach them.

Tricks can and do include commands we may use every day, the command to "come" you can use a verbal command or a whistle, again you have to be consistent with what you want from your dog. Start this with calling your dog while they are next to you in the home, when the dog comes over, praise and give a small treat. Do the same command, word or whistle several times a day, slowly increase the distance the dog has to come to you over time. A new command has been learnt. The trick for "circle" is when you get your dog to go around you in a circle, with you in the middle. Get your dog to face you and with the treat under his nose lead the dog around you in a circle, when you start this say "circle" when the dog gets back to the beginning, which is facing you, praise and reward. Try this for five minutes a day a few times a day. The dog has such a great ability to learn and love of praise most tricks can be learnt by all dogs.

The key for some breeds is what motivates them. It could be a toy, treats or verbal praise from you. A lovely trick is "speak" this is where you teach your dog to bark on a command. It a good fun trick, that you both have great fun in learning. You need to have time with your dog and a favorite game. Start by getting your dog excited to play, jump around and say things excitedly "let's play" or "game time" as your dog cottons on, he will get excited too and so will bark, you then say "speak" with praise as well in this instance the reward is the game, it could be fetching the ball, or a game he loves.

As you build this up he will learn to "speak" on command. This is a party winner for the family. The only warning for this trick is of you have a dog that already has problems barking too much. In that case, you may be better not to teach this one.
