5 Important Points To Ensure You Are Buying The Right Puppy

2016/5/4 10:33:54

Does the thought of buying a puppy overwhelm you? It can be challenging to choose from among those adorable faces. You've got the cute one, the sad and lonely one, the bouncy one, the cuddly one and a whole bunch in between that beg your attention.

While these are strong temptations, buying a puppy founded on these appeals alone can lead to troubles in the future.

Here are 5 simple points to help you with this important decision.

1. Make certain that you recognize that breed's characteristics and that you know what makes up that mixed breed. Small puppies often hold surprises. The dog might grow into a large adult that demands a lot of space. Ask the seller about the background of the puppy's descendants.

2. Check into the breeds that are in that puppy's lineage: what is the size at adulthood. Make sure to ask what is the largest they are known to get. Average size is just that. Dogs can grow well beyond the size that is most common for that breed.

How much exercise do they need? What is their temperament? You can usually tell the temperament of the puppy by that of its mother and father, as well as its grandparents.

You might not be able to find out the different breeds that make up that puppy,in which case you can only go by the parents. Still, this research will give you some idea what to expect when the puppy maturates.

3. Meet the puppy's parents. This will give you information that can help you make your decision. In most cases, the puppies will grow to the same or similar height and appearance, but it's not a guarantee. It will also give you a peek into the health of that family.

4. If it is a pedigree puppy, ask to see registered papers that spell out the puppy's parentage. The papers reveal whether or not the parents meet the American Kennel Club's specifications for that breed. If your chosen puppy turns out not to meet that breed's standards, you can return it to the seller if it comes with papers.

5. Buy a puppy only from a quality seller. There are many disreputable dog breeders/sellers who do not care about the health of the puppy's mother or the kennel's hygiene. You could end up with a sick puppy that could have genetic disorders from incorrect breeding practices.

Buying a puppy is a big decision. These steps will help you, but before you get your puppy home and afterwards, you will face other choices also.
