How To Train A Cat To Use Its Litter

As adorable as they may seem, having cats will require training them to use their toilet instead of leaving nasty surprises around the house. They may be easier to train than dogs but this does not assure you that it will be a smooth ride. You will need a lot of time and patience in order to train a cat.

Start training the cats at an early age in order to encorporate the habit of using the litter box. Also, kittens are much easier to train than older cats. In keeping your pet inside the house, here are some tips for training a cat to be litter box friendly:

Find your cat a box that best suits it. Easy access to the litter box is a must in training a cat. Remember that in training a kitten, you must have a litter box with a height that can easily be stepped into and out of it. When the cat is not comfortable in the litter box, it would just pee on the carpets.

Attracting your pet to use the litter box by keeping it clean, will serve as another trick that you can use in training a cat. Cats usually do not like bad odors and their strong sense of smell picks up even the faintest of smells. Keep the litter box tidied up with cleaning agents with natural scents and clean water.

When cleaning the liter box, avoid using scented soap. Replace the litter in the box regularly for hygienic purposes and to keep your cat attracted to it. When in the early stages of training a cat to use litter, you have to be the one to place the cat inside the litter box. Do this first thing in the morning or after the cat wakes up and after every meal.

This is also advisable after playing with your cat. This may take a few days practice. If the cat successfully does its business inside the litter box then you can reward it with food and lots of love. Cats remember this and will associate being inside the litter box with being good. Upon realizing this, your cat will do this practice on its own. Upon seeing this, reward yourself for doing a good job.

Litter training your cat is, in my opinion one of the most important kind of training that any pets should have, ending up with surprises at home it's not nice and it is definitely something that any pet owner wants to avoid.

As a pet lover and someone who devoted his life to animals I consider myself an expert trainer and the one person you can go to when needing advise with regards to your cats.
