Did you know that some dog foods on the supermarket shelves could be detrimental to your dog's health? Learn the secrets today to what to look out for in cheap dog foods.

When you are looking for ways to keep your dog healthy then what you feed your dog on is without a doubt a commanding factor to how his physical condition will be in times to come.

If we were to go back in time 20 years or more food for dogs had a different concept to what dogs are fed on today. In many cases years ago dogs were just fed on the leftovers that were left on the table, however thank goodness we care much more for our pets these days, and in many cases are more selective to what they eat.

Or so one would think but are we?

Its seems every month or so some new dog food comes on the super market shelves, which make claims to provide them with better health if they eat this type of food, for example; stronger teeth, healthier bones, more energy, and so forth, however some of these foods appear and then are taken off the market as being unsafe for our dogs, it seems that the manufactures of these products are experimenting with our dogs in some cases.

I can understand most of us have to look for ways to feed our dogs and ourselves for that matter in the most economical ways possible, however it's not the smartest thing to buy the cheapest dog food and save money in that sense, and pay out in vet bills because of this.

So the question is how can we find out what to feed our dogs on to save money and keep our dogs in good heath and not have to spend money on vet bills.

Dogs are no different to us in respect of, we are what we eat, the reason why so many people in the world are suffering with a ridiculous amount of obesity is the food we eat and how much of it is consumed, for example; ready made meals, burgers, French fries, and the results are plain to see bad health, and overweight.

With regard to dog food it is the same deal if you feed your dog healthy nutritious meals, it stands to reason it can build up his immune system; they would not be vulnerable to the every day ailments that are flying around.

Dogs can easily pick up diseases if their immune system is low, dogs are naturally inquisitive, and when out and about are nearly always smelling other dogs and sniffing at other dogs poop, and this in turn can lead to illness in dogs.

Not many people realise that dog foods available in the supermarkets, and in the local grocery store are not the healthiest option. The facts are these cheaper dog foods you need to look very carefully at the ingredients within, just the same as if we were shopping for your children, and the reason it does not always perform in the way it is presented on the tin or packet.

Don't be fooled by the clever marketing techniques they employ in order to make sales.

The facts are that the ingredients in these foods are of a very poor quality and in many cases do more harm than good.

When you are at the supermarket buying food for your dog next time, look out for "meat by products" or "meat and bone meal" be very cautious when it is worded in this way, what this means is it could contain skin, bones, lungs, or other disgusting parts of bodies we would not dream of feeding to humans in it's unmixed sense, this is probably what is meant by meat by products and bone meal.

If you are looking for good quality products then look for the names on the products such as chicken meal, beef, a further one you can be confident of is a product that contains corn as the foremost feature.

In this article I have only touched the fringe of what to look out for to get the best diet for our dogs, but I hope this has given some clues to keeping your dog happy and healthy.

Finally be careful when choosing dog food for your best friend.
