The Roboski dwarf hamsters is one of the three kinds of Russian Dwarf Hamsters that originated from regions in Mongolia and Northern China. The scientific name of the Roboski Dwarf Hamster is "Phodopud Roborovski". It is the smallest of all the hamsters with its length reaching approximately two inches. There are some striking features to help someone distinguish it from the other dwarf hamsters. They have a top coat of sandy brown, an undercoat of slate grey, belly and side arches of pure white, and long legs with white eyebrows above their eyes. The Roboski dwarf hamsters have a life span of 3 years dependent on the living conditions. They have been named after Lt. Vsevolod Roborovski who first noticed them on his expedition in July 1894.

Roboski dwarf hamsters are exceedingly fast and active making the handling of them sometimes very difficult. Inspite of this, however, they are timid around people, so they wont bite often. They need a large cage to execute all their lively activities. Having a wheel in the cage is a must along with many hiding places (hamsters love to burrow), and places to climb. Keeping them in wire cage is not a good option as at the slightest provocation they might try to escape. Because of this, keeping them in an enclosed area is a good choice especially with the use of plastic cages that are now available in different designs and sizes.

Hamsters feed on grains, vegetables, fruit, and plants. They are certainly an entertaining animal and as pet they can keep you engaged with their lively activities for long hours. Some families like to make feeding time an evening activity rather than plopping down in front of the television. Maybe you can make this one of your family activities.

Roboski dwarf hamsters is not a suitable pet for children. Sometimes even adults have problems when it comes to managing them. Even when holding them in your hand they will try to wriggle away. Children therefore, will not be able to manage them let alone play with them. However, it is great fun to watch them and enjoy the presence of one as they are always on the move doing one thing and another. Keep this in mind when considering buying a roboski hamster. It may make a good family pet for entertainment, but if you're expecting to avoid the care of the critter, a different breed of hamster may be more suitable.

The Roboski dwarf hamsters is a very clean animal and is known to spend most of the time grooming themselves. They are amiable in nature which makes housing them in pairs is a very good option. Roboski hamsters are also easier to breed than some other hamsters. Many hamster lovers will make a hobbie out of keeping and breeding this type of dwarf hamster.

Above all the Roboski dwarf hamsters are known be great as pets and with their activities they provide great entertainment facilities for the owner. But keep in mind what it takes to care for these little guys. They are great entertaininment, great for breeding, not so good for children.
