Dog Adoption: The Better Option

2016/5/4 10:25:24

When you want to have a new dog in the house, you can either get them from a newspaper ad from those who breed them for sale, or you can look for them in the internet, or still, you can buy from your local pet store. But, you can also adopt one from your local animal shelter. This way, you will be of much help to your community,

Adopting a dog will provide you with a new house companion while also easing your neighborhood of some of the burdens of keeping stray animals from the streets. You will be able to help lessen the number of dogs that are homeless and unwanted and provide them with a new home. It will greatly help them in having a new life, as a lot of these animals are generally killed when the adopting shelter does not have the capacity to keep them anymore. Those who advocate animal rights everywhere are much in favor of dog adoption from shelters as a better way of acquiring new pets at home.

Aside from that, you also get other advantages when you adopt a dog. First, dogs from the shelters are already given their needed shots. Second, the people from the shelter would be able to tell you the kind of attitude that your dog has. And last, it will free some more space at the shelter to accommodate more of these homeless doggies. So, it is not only you who benefits fro it, but also, other dogs as well.

When you take a dog from a shelter, you can be sure that the vets had given him his shots and has been examined for diseases and parasites that he might have. Puppies that are given away in front of stores or being given away by kids may not be given such treatments.

Not all dogs who are at the shelter were just picked up as strays. Some of them were given away by previous owners for several reasons. When they do so, the people at the shelter will try to obtain as much information that they could get about the dog. Such information would include about how much barking it does, if it is playful or not, whether it has already been housebroken, if it is playful when it comes to little children, and other similar information. A lot of the times, the information that owners give are almost 100% accurate.

Animal shelters keep your streets free from unwanted or stray animals that may roam around and cause unnecessary nuisance to the public. But most of them are receive only a small amount or even, are not funded by the government at all. Since, they have very little amount of funding, they cannot take care of these animals properly. The only way that they could accommodate other animals is to eliminate some of them. This is done either by giving out some of the animals for adoption, or by killing the animals through euthanasia. What they would want, however, is for the dogs to get adopted by someone. Thus, when you adopt a dog, you are saving his life and giving another, a chance at the shelter.
