The Basic Commands For Miniature Schnauzer Training

Providing your pet with miniature schnauzer training shouldn't be a pain in the neck since miniature schnauzers are usually easy to train, all thanks to this breed's intelligence, obedience and willingness to please. Such characteristics enable them to compete in dog agility trials, obedience, showmanship, flyball and tracking. But in order for them to be qualified to the mentioned competitions, there are so many lessons they need to learn first - one of these lessons is the basic obedience.

During obedience training, dogs are taught how to obey commands given by the handler or owner. These commands include:

Come

Training the come command is one of the most important lessons you will need to teach your beloved pet. Through this command, you will be able to keep your pet safe when danger is coming and prevent him from causing accidents or injuries to anyone around. Instead of going to your pet, calling him to come to you during instances such as mealtime or before exercise session starts is also one way of showing your confidence and role as pack leader.

Sit

Sit is an ideal command to use not only when you need to control your pet but also if there are undesirable behaviors you need to modify. Let's take for example your pet's jumping habit. Commanding him to sit the moment you see him running to you can prevent him from even attempting to jump. And if you reward him each time he stays in sit position, he will eventually figure out that sitting pleases you and earns him reward thus will repeat it.

Down

Just like come and sit command, down command is also an important part of miniature schnauzer training. Your alert and spirited miniature schnauzer is less likely to run across a busy street and chase cars if he is in down position. Not only can it help you control your beloved pet but can also make you gain your pet's respect.

Stay

The stay command is commonly used with the commands sit and down. This command keeps your furry friend in sit or down position until he is released.

Heel

The heel command is used when walking with your dog. This is characterized by having your dog beside you, specifically on your left side, and parallel to your leg while walking. He should never walk ahead neither pull the leash ahead of you. A dog that has mastered this command is easy to walk with and less likely to pull the leash or run off.

These commands may be very simple however, it should be done properly for these commands are foundation when training other obedience commands such as play dead, roll over fetch and many more.
