When people think about health for their iguana they normally think about eating right and exercising. However when it comes to vitamin supplements many people never really give them a thought. And while there are many vitamin supplements out there that can give your iguana all the nutrition they need, most of them always leave out fish oil. And for those of you who are not aware, the reason fish or fish oil is so important is because it contains omega 3. In This Article we're going to be covering some of the health benefits associated with fish oil.

While most people will tell you if you want your iguana to live a healthier life you need to cut out all fats from its diet, however this is not accurate. You are going to find that there are things known as essential fatty acids which are necessary for their overall health. And one of these essential fatty acids are known as omega 3, and this omega 3 is what you will find is the key ingredient in fish oils. Although fish oils are not the only place you can find omega 3, you'll find that these fish oils will provide your iguana with the amount of omega 3 they need every day.

Another thing you should realize is that omega 3 should not be confused with omega 6. Omega 6 is what you would find and oils, like corn oil and other vegetable oils, and an excess amount of omega six can result in things such as blood clotting, heart disease and high blood pressure. You should also know that studies have been performed on animals with a high fish diet, showing that they have decreased risks of heart disease. The main reason for this is because of the vast amounts of omega 3 these animals are getting in their diet from the fish.

Many of you probably also know that fish is also food which is low in calories. Which means eating plenty of fish can not only help the iguana's heart health but it can also help them to remain fit. You probably also know that animals who are in good physical shape usually end up with less than health related issues than animals who are overweight.

While fish oil may not be a miracle cure for all the iguana's illnesses, they can help your iguana to lead a healthier life. For those of you who do not like feeding your iguana fish you will find that you can get fish oil supplements at your local drugstore.
