Do's of Staffordshire Bull Terrier Training

If there is one thing that can make a dog owner proud and happy for having an obedient Staffy, that is Staffordshire Bull Terrier training. During training, a pet is taught how to obey various commands, where to go during potty breaks and how to respond to various scenarios. But successful dog training cannot be achieved overnight, not even for one week. More often, training takes time and a great deal of effort and patience.

In order to get desirable result, you as the owner should make sure to do what is right and avoid those that can affect the training in a negative way. Listed below are some do's every dog owner should bear in mind:

Do train early.

One cannot talk about dog training without touching this topic. This is one of the first few tips a dog owner, especially inexperienced ones need to know. Although they have short attention span, a puppy is easier to train because it has not developed bad habits yet. Instead of training it to stop excessive barking, chewing or other undesirable behaviors, you will only have to focus on teaching it to avoid such things. Additionally, puppies are naturally curious and up for fun so anything, be it command or scenario, that is introduced to them will surely be given attention and done with great enthusiasm.

Do use effective and appropriate Staffordshire Bull Terrier training strategies.

Staffies are highly intelligent dogs but that doesn't mean that all training methods would suit them best. Methods should be chosen depending on the breed's personality and physical capacity. Naturally you cannot expect an old or sick staffy to do what those young and active puppies can do. By ensuring that the training method used is suited to your dog's personality, you are less likely to get positive result from training.

Do recognize good behavior.

Mistakes and other undesirable behaviors need to be given proper attention, so is good behavior. If you recognize and reward your dog for obeying your commands, it is more likely to repeat the behavior in the hopes of receiving more rewards. Through this, your pet will eventually master the command until treat rewards can be replaced with praise and other affection rewards.

Do be consistent and firm.

Staffies are a fearless bunch thus you need to be firm and consistent. You need to make it clear to your dog that you are the pack leader that needs to be obeyed and respected. This helps in preventing aggression and other behavior issues from taking place. On the other hand, being consistent is essential to prevent confusion on your dog's part.
