The gift of knowledge is one of the most important gifts you can give anyone including your dog. Shiba Inu training enables your dog to know the proper way to respond to various commands and behave in ways acceptable to you. Having such manner, it wouldn't be too difficult for your pet to gain the love and attention of anyone around him. On the contrary, inappropriate training or lack thereof may lead to various issues that could prompt you to abandon your pet.

To ensure that your Shiba Inu stays well-mannered, it is your responsibility being the owner to know the most effective training tips. Here are some tips you may want to know:

Find out more about your dog.

Knowing more about the breed doesn't stop once you decide that this breed is indeed appropriate for you. Even if you have already taken your new pet home, knowing more about him must go on since not all dogs are the same. Dogs, even if they are of the same breed may differ in size, personality and habits. Every little information about your dog is important in determining what approach to use and what Shiba Inu training activities to include.

Start the training early.

The best time to start training is right after your pet arrives home. Training during this time doesn't need to be anything but socialization, a process wherein you are helping your pet get used to the new things around him - the new house, family and friends as well as other pets. Socialization period should also make your pet realize that passersby, delivery man, cars, noisy appliances and other sights and sounds he will come across with in the future are nothing to be scared of. If your pet is socialized early in life, he is less likely to develop bad behaviors such as aggression, growling and biting.

Use appropriate training approach.

One reason why you need to know more about your pet is this. If you are well-aware of your pet's personality, you will be able to determine what approach would suit him best. Just because the Shiba Inu is known to have strong prey drive doesn't mean you can use harsh training approach. Observe how your pet responds to things and base the training from there. But as much as possible, avoid using harsh approach during training. Apart from the fact that it will bring no good, it can also cause your pet to develop bad behaviors such as fear and aggression.

Recognize good behavior... and bad behavior as well.

Recognizing your pet's good behavior through reward is one of the most effective approaches to encourage him to repeat that particular behavior. And while rewarding every good behavior is important, you also need to give negative behavior equal attention. It must be corrected as soon as it happens in order to make your dog realize that those things are not acceptable thus won't gain him rewards.
