For anyone who is new to German Shepherd training, there are certainly some challenges to overcome. In a lot of cases, you could encounter one of those stubborn pups who just don't want to listen, at which point you need the strategies of the pros at your disposal. Use these tips to learn more on how to eliminate biting problem, with an edge that won't fail.

Dogs that tend to bite on anything can be both harmful and irritating. Although it is a normal dog behavior, it is important to teach your dog that mouthy play is unacceptable. If you do not communicate that biting is unacceptable, your puppy won't know that he is doing something wrong.

When you catch your puppy biting, redirect him to a chew toy or bone. To do so, yelp or make a noise as if you are hurt and say "No!" in a firm tone of voice as soon as he starts to bite. Once he stopped biting, give him a chew toy and take away the item he is chewing. If he continues biting, act like you are hurt, ignore him and move away from him for a few seconds. By doing the procedure each time your German Shepherd bites, he will soon realize that the behavior hurts you and the fun ends when you are hurt. Therefore to continue the fun and get rewards, he must avoid biting or limit the force of the bite. Limiting the force of the bite is referred to as bite inhibition.

Dog-proof your home if you know that your dog is prone to chewing and biting everything in sight when the family is out. You may crate your dog but if you don't want to, you will have to act as if there is a baby in the house and remove access to those things that your dog may get into when you're gone. When you are expecting visitors, crate is also an excellent tool to prevent injuries and other problems.

While you are teaching a puppy to stop biting, do not play any wrestling, tug of war or any game that encourage biting and chasing. This helps avoid confusion and strengthen what you are teaching him. Positive result may not be seen at once but by being consistent with German Shepherd training techniques mentioned will teach your dog that there are certain behaviors that are unacceptable. Soon your dog will stop these behaviors and you'll have a playful yet obedient dog.
