Mild Dog Illness Symptoms May Not Require Treatment

2016/5/4 10:11:54

Dog illness symptoms that are mild and are not serious may not require any treatment at all except time. Animals are just like humans, and it is possible for colds, stomach viruses, and bacterial illnesses to get a foothold. Some illnesses can be transmitted from humans to dogs and this may also be true in reverse in some cases. If the dog has a mild case of the sniffles, is simply off their food for a day or two, or seems lethargic for a short time this may be perfectly normal and shows the dog is fighting the illness without help.

Many dogs have a bad habit of eating from the garbage. Often the discarded food consumed by the dog has high levels of bacteria in it. In this situation it is not uncommon for the dog to vomit a few times and to have diarrhea for a day or so. The exception to waiting a day or two to seek medical attention in this situation is if the dogs abdomen becomes bloated and distended.

A number of mild dog illness symptoms may make the animal uncomfortable but not pose a serious threat to their health. A small fever is common if a dog has a viral infection but if the fever spikes or will not come down then medical attention should be sought for the dog right away.

Make sure the animal always has clean fresh water available. This is especially true if the dog is showing symptoms of becoming sick. Having fluids available will help the dog fight off any illness more effectively and recover faster. Some symptoms may make the pet very thirsty, and this leads to an increase in urination and trips outside. Unless certain symptoms seem serious or the dog has been sick for more than 2-3 days a vet is not usually needed and the animal should be left alone to rest and get better.

It is important that any mild dog illness symptoms are closely monitored to ensure that these symptoms do not worsen and actually go away instead.

As long as the animal is not in pain and the symptoms are mild waiting for a day or two is the best strategy in almost every case. Dog illness symptoms
