The Insect Lore Butterfly Garden

The Insect Lore Butterfly Garden is really an amazing product. Kids love this and the best part is it's educational as well. My daughter has a pretty big thing for butterflies so it was something we had to get her for the spring. One word of advice, I would not buy this going in to the colder seasons as the caterpillars may not do so well and you really won't be able to release the butterflies without killing them. Now, spring and summer is the perfect time to get this though.

The Insect Lore Butterfly Garden comes with 5 caterpillars and the perfect amount of food. The caterpillars love this food, I know someone that tried to give them real food, leaves, and they didn't touch it so just stick with what you get in the set and you will be fine. The Caterpillars will go to the chrysalides stage and then turn into beautiful butterflies, all in about 3 weeks or so and it's pretty amazing to watch.

This is really easy to do and my 4 1/2 year old was able to do almost everything herself. After the butterflies emerged from their cocoons we kept them for a few days and released them. We planted a few butterfly plants in the back so they stuck around for a bit. We also got lucky in that the butterflies laid some eggs and we now have some baby caterpillars that we are feeding and raising so hopefully they will go through all the stages again and we can have a bunch of butterflies for our garden all summer long.

The Insect lore butterfly garden gave us a great experience. Your kids are going to love this and to be honest, a lot of adults will get a kick out of it too. This was something I had a great time doing with my daughter and she not only learned a lot about butterflies but, she remembers what she learned. The hands on part of it made everything really stick with her and she still can tell you a lot about the life cycle of a butterfly, it's pretty amazing to say the least.
