Cleaning Up Your Dog After She's Sprayed By A Skunk

There's nothing quite like a skunk sprayed dog. When a dog is sprayed by a skunk, it causes immediate problems...problems you'll want to find immediate solutions to.

Dogs are naturally curious, and unfortunately, they find themselves on the receiving end of skunks' ire all too often. If you've never dealt with a skunk sprayed dog, we hope you'll never have to. If you do, here's how to do it.

The first thing you'll need to do when dealing with a dog sprayed by a skunk is to catch the dog. How hard that will be depends on your dog. Some skunk sprayed dogs will run right to you, looking for your comfort. While this makes them easier to catch, it doesn't make dealing with them any more pleasant. In most cases, you'll end up having to get a lot of the skunk smell off yourself even after you've managed to get the skunk sprayed dog cleaned up.

Dogs that run and hide when they've been skunked can be a bit more difficult to deal with. Fortunately, they're not terribly difficult to find. As unpleasant as it may be, you just need to follow your nose. A skunk sprayed dog will smell to high heaven, and will be relatively easy to find, especially since they eventually stop and try to get the smell off by themselves (unsuccessfully, of course).

After you've caught the dog, you'll need to clean him up. Unfortunately, soap and water isn't going to do the trick. Lots of people suggest washing a dog sprayed by a skunk with tomato juice. The problem is that tomato juice doesn't really get rid of the smell. It can reduce it, but it can't eliminate it.

Your best bet for getting the smell off a skunk sprayed dog is to use an odor eliminator that's specifically designed for the task. The best skunk odor removers contain Chlorine Dioxide, a chemical compound that bonds with the odor-causing musk on a molecular level, causing a chemical reaction that releases harmless byproducts while completely neutralizing the smell.

Unfortunately, you won't find really effective skunk odor removal products in your average store. You can find skunk odor removers with Chlorine Dioxide online, though. If you live in an area where your dog might encounter skunks (and that increasingly includes cities), you might want to consider stocking up, so that you have some on hand before you need it. After all, the last thing you want is to have to try to figure out what will work to get the stink off of your skunk sprayed dog after the fact.

While many so-called solutions only mask odor problems, Biocide's revolutionary products actually destroy the cause of the odor, not only getting rid of the odor but also sanitizing the area. Check out our revolutionary odor eliminator. Get rod of home odors, car odors, boat odors and pet odors easily.
