Pets Allowed: How To Create A Pet-Friendly Holiday Home

2016/5/4 10:10:22

If you want to have a 'pets allowed' rental home and attract a whole new tourism dollar, you will find that making some modifications for the comfort and convenience of the pet visitors will be important.

If your rental home allows pets, but isn't truly pet friendly, you will find yourself with unhappy patrons and possible messes on your hands. It is vitally important that your holiday home be set up to deal with your soon-to-be pet visitors before you invite people to take your pet along for holidays.

You will need to think about the pets in every step of the cleaning process between patrons. Any chemicals that you use in the house should be properly watered down or rinsed off as they need to be. Many chemicals can leave hazardous residues on surfaces, and you need to be aware that some pets can be sensitive to these residues. Keep all of your normal chemicals in a secure place where pets can't get into them. Consider keeping a locked cabinet in the rental home with the chemicals inside. Don't use any rat poisons or spray for insects around the home, as these could easily poison the curious pet in a pets allowed environment.

Secure the yard completely by fencing it in with secure fencing. If you're going to have dogs running around in the back yard, you will need a fence that is strong and will stand up to dogs leaning and jumping against it in excitement. A flimsy fence will result in disaster when someone decides to take your pet to play fetch. Secure the entire yard, and see that the fencing goes all the way to the ground. Any gaps between the ground and the fence could permit a small dog to escape the yard. Inspect the fence between every guest, making sure that none of the dogs that have been staying have been digging along the fence line. If the yard has a gate, make certain that is secures from the inside for extra protection.

Inside the home, consider pulling up the carpeting. Hard surfaces don't absorb stains and accidents, and will make cleaning up after pets easier. If you would like to make rules about the home, such as where pets should be fed or groomed at, make this list of regulations easy for any patron to find.

Consider encouraging guests to download a mobile app to assist them in finding other areas that are also pets allowed in the local area.
