If you own a smaller dog breed like a Yorkie or Chihuahua you should measure your dog and compare it with the feeder before purchasing.

But part of the reason that dogs learn to gulp their food, even when there is no threat of it disappearing, is that the angle at which they eat requires a more enthusiastic approach to swallowing. The result is that they end up swallowing a lot of air as well. Since most dogs don't burp, well, I don't need to tell you what the end result is. If you have a dog, you know exactly what I mean.

Once your dog has learned to gulp, even adding a raised feeder to their repertoire might not be enough. There are bowls that have sections or knobs to help your dog slow their eating pace. Between these two tools, you can slow down your dog and have them eat more sedately. The result is much less air is ingested and a real reduction in pressure on the joints of the elbow and wrist. For older dogs, this second benefit is priceless.
