I’m sure you’ve at least considered some of these names, but you may not be able to use them because all of your neighbors and families pets already have the best ones taken. If that is the case, you’ll have to be creative and come up with your own dog names.

A few tips to finding great, but maybe not the most popular dog names are to keep the name short and easy to say, one or two syllables is best. Stay away from names that sound like commands that you will be giving your dog. Try not to rhyme your dog’s name with sit, for example. Okay, maybe that’s a bad example, but you get my meaning. When you think you’ve found a name you like, go ahead and give it a try for a day or two and see how it feels after that. If you still love it, keep it. If not, then move on to the next, but don’t wait too long or your puppy will get confused. If your dog is adopted, try to keep his or her given name. The very best dog names are the ones that will have your dog come running when you call it.
