This was done for them to become better swimmers. Airedale terriers pride themselves in the fact that they are very good watch- and guard dogs – and they also excel in hunting, tracking, military work and police work.

Airedale terriers have hair that is tough and hard. This makes it difficult to groom these dogs. It is advised that the dead hairs of these dogs are plucked about two times during the course of the year. Airedale terriers can shed quite heavily, or they can shed no hair at all – this is all depended on the way that the coat is cut. It is very important to wash the beards of these dogs on a regular basis to prevent tangling – and also to keep it clean from food residue.

Training

Airedale Terriers are very clever, and this makes it easy for them to understand what is required of them. Try to bring in variety as a part of their training as these dogs will become stubborn should they be given the same instructions all the time. The training and exercises of these dogs should also be challenging. Airedale terriers will excel in dog sports and also in defence dog trials if they are given proper training.
