There are currently two dogs in our house. I say currently simply because my husband works at the nearby Humane Society and this normally indicates we have many “visitors” come to stay with us at the house.

Some go back as soon as they’ve found a new home, and some stay%u2026for good! Animals of all kinds, but our favourite is dogs.

The latest addition to the pack is Shayla. We don’t know exactly what happened to Shayla, but she was picked up on the streets, skinny, scared and homeless. She was afraid of anyone who came near her and was thought to be such a far gone dog that she was scheduled to be put down.

This led to her returning home with us, to see if there was any way we could assist to re-habilitate her. My husband also being a dog coach, he desired to give Shayla a chance to become a doggy that would be adoptable. It was afterwards found that Shayla also experienced a coronary heart issue which is certain to reduce her living, and made her even tougher to adopt.

This poor puppy got all the chances loaded against her, and even though I wasn’t that fired up about getting another puppy in the house, I instantly felt bad for Shayla and wanted to assist in any way I could.

She was really shy of folks when she very first arrived home, and would bark very loudly when anybody arrived to the house. For the very first couple of weeks she would start barking at me if I came in the room she was in which we believed perhaps she had a eyesight problem and could not identify me. We later on discovered out that her vision is great. At least something works on that dog ; )!

The Animal medical practitioner believed Shayla to be around 3 years old when she arrived to the Humane Society, which brought the “You Cannot Train An Old Dog New Tricks” saying to my mind. We tried out several different methods to help Shayla get much more comfy in the house and absolutely nothing appeared to work.
