The history of Betta fish can be traced back many centuries. In the old days, the people of Siam would use these fish for competitive fighting. They become known as Siamese fighting fish. First off, you are going to need a large size fish tank. When you first get a Beta, they come in a small bowl. If you leave them in this bowl too long, they will become sick and most likely die. Five gallons is about the right amount of water you will want for them. You can get a good size fish tank at your local pet store. Keep in mind that you will want to avoid purchasing a plastic tank as they become hazardous to your pet.

Tank location is also something to consider. If you put your fish tank in direct sunlight, you pet fish can become ill. However, they do need some sunlight. So put them in a location that is optimal for both lighting and safety. Predators such as cats can often become curious about your Betta, so purchase a quality tank cover. Be sure to purchase one that is well ventilated.

The environment that your pet will be living in will determine how long they live. To ensure that they have a happy and long life, include a water heater, and water filtration system. This is because the water temperature for Betta fish should be warmer. A good temperature would be around 75-80 degrees Fahrenheit. The filtration system will keep Betta diseases at bay.

Unless your pet Betta has many friends, it can be lonely for them. To keep them happy, purchase some Betta accessories. Good accessories would include rocks, plants and mirrors.
