Though most of them work, you have to explore what are the approaches they use in training your dog. There will advantages and drawbacks to each of those methods. Therefore it is imperative that you think it through to figure out what’s most suitable for you and your dog.

To give you an idea of these methods, here’s 5 of the common ones:

1. Clicker Training : This method involves the use of a hand held device which makes a clicking sound when pressed. During training period, everytime the dog is in good behavior, clicking sound is made along with some treats. This is a way to reinforce that good behavior. Gradually, the rewards will be taken but the clicking sound will still be there as a sort of way to tell him that he is behaving well.

2. Reward Training : Have you ever seen an show in the zoo featuring animals? Have you ever wondered why animals follow the commands of its trainers? Well, this is exactly the type of training it entails to get a dog or any animal behave in the way you want him to. If you give him a reward once you find his behavior very good, he’ll want to do anything you say because he’s in it for the treat.

3. Whistle Training : For this method, you will be using a device called an ultrasonic whistle. It is a whistle which normally humans cannot hear but dogs can. The whistle will be used primarily to get the dog’s attention. This proves to be very effective. However, the drawback is you yourself will have to get trained to employ this method yourself.

4. Dog Whispering : You’ve heard of horse whispering, right? This is just exactly the same training but only it’s done on dogs. This can only be done by highly trained professionals. And there are some who would assert that only few are gifted to effectively employ this method.

5. Collar Training : For this training you will need a collar on your dog. This will control your dog’s movement loosely. This way, you dog will have no choice but follow on to wherever you direct his attention.

Most courses could involve one or a mix of the methods enumerated above. And the course will likely claim few tricks of their own. Whichever course you choose, make sure you have given it thorough consideration to achieve best results with your dog.
