Should You Get A Bichon Frise Puppy?

If you are thinking of buying a puppy for yourself or your kids, you might want to consider bichon frise puppies.

Bichon Frise puppies, at first glance, look like adorable white puffballs, although some pups may have other colors mixed in, like apricot, cream, buff or gray. They have prominent round eyes which are either black or dark brown in color. Their coat is long and curly. Because it sheds very little, a bichon puppy is an ideal pet for any family member who has allergies.

The next thing you would probably notice in a bichon pup is its disposition. Bichon puppies are affectionate and very sociable little dogs, standing up in their boxes or cages to greet you with a charming smile, wagging tail, or even a cheerful yip (although Bichon Frises are not yappy by nature). Despite being small, Bichons are very sturdy and can keep up with a child at play, but minimize the roughhousing as some pups, particularly those that have been rescued, may develop an aggressive temperament.

Another thing you will be concerned about is how easy or difficult it would be to house train a Bichon. Although a playful and cheerful pup by nature, bichon frise are very intelligent and can be strong-willed, making house breaking a bit of a problem. However, puppies are considerably easier to manage in comparison to adult dogs. Early on, you need to establish yourself as the leader of the household (also known as the “alpha dog”) and set firm rules and limitations for your puppy to observe.

While many individuals dream of owning a dog, quite a number of them are not too keen on caring for their pet. If you are intent of getting a bichon puppy, you should take responsibility for its health and its grooming.

Make sure that your puppy eats the right dog foods and given fresh clean water. Take it to the vet for vaccinations and for examinations especially if the pup is feeling poorly. Groom it regularly by brushing its coat frequently and giving it a bath once a month. Bichon pups also need a lot of exercise, so take them out on walks and allot an hour or two for playtime.

Always remember that, while Bichon Frise puppies are perfect family pets, it is equally important for you, the owner, to take responsibility for its care. A pet is considered to be part of the family and should be taken good care of.
