There’s no question about it, housebreaking a puppy is one of the top priorities for puppy owners and dog owners alike. We expect a puppy to have to be housetrained, but there are also many adult dogs that are still a little confused about this too.

Often, you may notice your dog is almost 100% potty trained, but still has an occasional bathroom accident in the same area of the house. It may be in the kitchen, bathroom or family room. Regardless, you can still train him to stop.

To get your dog to quit making the same mistakes over and over again, you must find try to understand his mentality. Dogs normally do not like to make waste in the spaces the spaces they live in.

For the most part, you will notice that your dog keeps his living spaces pretty clean, whether it’s his crate or the room he spends most of his time in.

So why is it that your dog constantly picks the same areas of the house to go to the bathroom in? He might consider these places not to be the places where he lives.

To overcome this problem, spend some time with him in the areas he makes potty. Try playing with him or training him during this time. By doing these exercises, he may begin to understand that this is a place in which he lives.

Also, feed him in this room as well. For the most part, he will not want to go to the bathroom where he eats. By getting rid of any lingering smells will help prevent him from going to the same area as well.

By taking him on his leash and bringing him outside, he will soon begin to understand that this is a place to go to the bathroom as will at provide some interaction between you and your dog.

This will teach him from right and wrong. It also helps to catch him in the act when he is going to the bathroom in an inappropriate area so you can immediately correct his behavior.

If you at all change your schedule, keep in mind that this can be quite an adjustment for your dog as well. Some animals develop separation anxiety when they are left home alone for periods of time as well as have accidents inside your home.

Hopefully, by following the above steps you will be able to cut down or eliminate accidents from happening inside your home. Developing a healthy bond with your pup will go a long way.

These easy steps that include supervision, obedience training, praising him when he goes to the bathrooms outside and having him utilize all parts of the house by spending time in the areas he goes to the bathroom, you will be able to prevent this problem. The ability to trust your pet will make you both feel at ease and enjoy each other’s company.
