A habitat is the most essential part of anyone’s existence, be it a human or an animal. We adore our home; love going back to it after a long tiring day. But what if you are made to live somewhere else, a place where you are deprived of your basic necessities, a place which is completely alien to you? Doesn’t sound a good idea, right? Similar is the case with your pet. Providing a habitat that makes him feel like home is highly essential so as to make him happy and healthy.

Red eye frog is leading the race for the most lovable pet and is found more in homes as compared to cats and dogs. The frog needs ample of space for himself. An all-glass large vivarium with spacious vertical room is recommended. Since they are arboreal, plenty of height space is required. The vivarium should be roofed with a screen so as to prevent the frogs from evading.

This pet do not need any specific light or heat emitter, they do well at room temperature. However, to be at the safer side, you should make sure that the tank temperature is within the range of 26C to 28C during day time and 20C to22C at night. This can be attained using an underneath heat mat controlled by thermostat. You should setup a low UV lamp to create a natural day and night cycle. Red eye frog needs substrate. The substrate should be used to sustain high level of humidity along with being easy to clean and opposed to the fungus growth. This coconut husk fiber, safe soil, cypress mulch, orchid bark, moist form rubber or moist paper towel with 2 to 5 inches depth can be used in the substrate for giving a natural look. However, the ideal choice is coconut husk fiber that is available in different forms. At the bottom of vivarium, aquarium gravel can be used for drainage purpose.

Red eyed frog habitat environment should have the high level of humidity all time, at about 70 is a must. A large shallow water dish should be there. You need to mist the vivarium on regular basis to maintain the moist habitat about twice a day. An automatic reptile misting system is recommended. There should be several perches and hiding places for red eyed tree frog. Hiding spots can be created using live plants or artificial plants with large, broad, sturdy and green leaves for sheltering and sleeping. These arboreal tree frogs require climbing places. Branchy sticks, driftwood, slabs of cork bark, vines, and bamboo poles are decors to be used to create comfortable and natural perches and climbing areas. Tank background should be covered by dark poster to make the frogs feel secure.

It’s very important to clean the vivarium as the red eyed tree frogs have sensitive skin. Make sure to inspect the vivarum daily. Dirty items should be removed and replaced to prevent mold from budding. Fresh water should be replaced daily. Every 2 weeks, the vivarium should be hygienic and sterilized using reptile safe disinfectant or amphibian safe cleaner. Rinse the vivarium thoroughly after disinfecting.
Have a great time seeing your red eye frog hopping around happily!
