Are you aware that your joy for acquiring a new fun mate with the arrival home of your puppy or an adult dog will disappear as soon as you remember that the animal has to be trained in the ways of civilized society, especially if you have no idea how to go about training your dog? If you do not train your puppy it could grow into a nuisance in your home.

Naturally, it becomes a serious matter if you have no dog training ideas as almost all new dog owners are at the risk of not having. Yes, you know that you cannot train your puppy or older dog without some informed dog training knowledge; which is why I have listed below necessary tips to help you train your dog without many problems.

1. Arrange for the first dog training session to take place immediately you bring the puppy or an adult dog home. Let the dog realize immediately that living with you demands that commands be obeyed. Do not let a day or more pass before you do the first dog training session.

2. Provide a Crate for your puppy. Crates make for better puppy control in your house. And the Crate gives your dog the natural den experience, as it would in the wild. And if you have to move or transport your dog, the crate comes handy. You can also, very conveniently, take your puppy to the vet in a crate.

Having said all that about the Crate, do not make your puppy or dog feel that the crate is a confinement of sorts. Under no circumstance should you lock up your dog in the Crate for more than 4 hours at a go. Doing that would encourage your puppy or dog to defecate in the crate. A very bad habit that is usually very hard to change. Dogs including puppies do the toilet within four hours of every day.

3. Realize that your puppy will potty when nature calls without asking for your permission; it therefore behooves you to study it and find out its toilet pattern and make it possible for it to recognize its designated toilet so that it does not defecate wherever he is when nature calls. Most dogs experience bowel movements after each meal, after playing hard and immediately after waking from a slumber.

4. To get your dog to be well behaved, do not show anger or frustration while with it. Your dogs is a sensitive animal. It would react to your countenance, tone of voice and general deportment. In most cases it will later play back those feelings towards you and other members of your family. You are to be very cheerful with your dog during training sessions. A dog that is afraid will not learn commands easily. Produce a sense of camaraderie that circulates positive vibrations and your dog will pick them up and so be in a better mind-set to engage your commands.

5. Unless your primary purpose of owning your dog is for security purposes, you must ensure that your puppy socializes. Eating, sleeping and training are all important but don't forget to take time to exercise and play with your dog.

Walking with your dog three times a day for at least 10 minutes and scheduling a half hour or an hour of play everyday will keep your puppy healthy and happy. Going to dog parks and having your dog socialize with other dogs and people will prevent your puppy from becoming overly aggressive.
