Imagine if you never brushed your teeth. How would you feel? Horrible? You would have bad breath, bleeding gums, pain and would eventually lose your teeth. It is essential to reflect on this, because this is what most pets endure every day.

Pain in pet dogs:-

It is also essential to realize that your dog may be in significant pain - And you may not even know it. Our pets tend to suffer in silence and usually do not express pain unless it is excruciating. Why? Because of evolution. Dogs still maintain many of their natural instincts. In the wild dogs would never express pain, because that would make them weak and a target for an approaching predator.

The animals that survived were the ones who were stoic in the face of pain. That trait was passed along to offspring and remains strong in our pet population today. That is why veterinary medicine can be so challenging and frustrating because our pets often suffer in silence. It is not until they are very ill and in horrendous pain that most show signs of illness. Dogs that have advanced oral disease can still behave normally and chew there food as if there is no problem.

Periodontal disease:-

Dogs develop periodontal disease just like humans do. In fact eighty percent of dogs by the age of three have this condition. Tartar attaches to the teeth and bacteria irritate the gum tissue causing it to swell and bleed. Eventually the connective tissue and bone begin to break down.
