Weimaraner Training: Teach it to walk on a leash

Training a Weimaraner
The Weimaraner temperament comes off as standoffish, but they are highly trainable as pets. Keep in mind that they are high strung and extremely intelligent dogs. If you cannot guide and attend to them properly, weimaraner can become suspicious, insecure and destructive. To teach them to walk on a leash, they should also be able to obey your commands. Obedience training is a must for this dog breed to facilitate other dog training. Weimaraners are tough walkers and needs long walks and exercise daily, thus teaching them to walk on a leash without trouble is very important. Wearing a collar can be irritating to most dogs, more so if it is connected to a leash which will prevent his movements. Be sure that the collar is not too slack or too tight. Reward him with praises or treats if he stays calm even wearing a collar. If he displays undesirable behavior behaviors such as barking, don抰 remove it right away and allow him to calm down.
Then attach the leash to the collar without pulling or holding for him to understand that a leash is not a threat. Let him to walk and explore around but keep him supervised to prevent the leash from tangling or getting caught. Then start attaching the leash for a short time and slowly augment the time so your pet gets used to it.
Walking the Weimaraner
On a good day, walk your pet dog outdoors. Take the leash by one hand and be ready with some treats with your other hand. Walk a couple of steps and reward your pup for behaving. If your dog pulls on the leash, stop walking for a while, let him just stay or sit until he settles down. If your weimaraner continues to pull on the leash when you start walking, then change your direction. Your dog will eventually realize that you won抰 be going anywhere if you keep on pausing and changing directions. Giving him rewards for the times he walks close to you will make him realize that he抣l be rewarded for doing such specific behavior and will continue to exhibit the same.
Before taking your puppy out and go for some weimaraner training on walking on a leash, be sure that he is already old enough and has been vaccinated completely to prevent catching any diseases. Consider the temperature outdoor and bring some water if necessary. Better yet, do not push through with your dog training if the temperature seems too warm for him to bear. And when you walk your pup, don抰 forget to allow him some sniffing to make your training more enjoyable.
