Some pets can be complicated to keep and hence we require the help of the collectors to explain all about them and how to take care of them once they are delivered to our homes. To the amazement of many people, there are rats that are kept at home as pets, but it needs a lot of carefulness when choosing the right variety so that you can learn how to handle them.

A thorough research is good so that you can understand everything to do with pet tat types, so that when you get to the market you will not have a hard time purchasing the pet you want.

The Color

Pet rat types are distinguished by the color of their fur, although some of them are discriminated due to their dark pigmentation that resembles that of the wild rats. They however have remarkable shades of eye color that make them cute little animals.

How to Tell the Pet Rats Apart

Breeders or attendants at the pet rat stores grade the breeds according to their markings. Grading is based on specific principles. The gradation can be whole white body, patches of white on different areas or white that fades into different colors on areas around the eyes, nose, ears and feet. The markings are done on pet rat types that have been put in a contest to check if the breeder has adhered to all the norms that regard pet rat breeding.

Types of Body

Pet rats are categorized into two classes, which depend on the typesof their body. Based on their breed, the pet rats can have a Dumborat body that has big ears drooping on the sides, or a Manx body which looks like that of a Manx cat. The dwarf rats are easy to handle.

Breed Selection

The act of selection of the breed depends on the reason for the grading. The first one may be for competition purposes where the best rat will be selected after meeting all or most of the requirements. If your reason for selection is purely for keeping the rats as pets, then you can take any breed that attracts you and is easy to maintain.

Cages for Rat Pets

Rats are known to be slippery and will escape immediately when they get a chance. That is why you will need to get the best of the pet rat cages with you after you have purchased your pet. The cages should be good displays of your pet because you cannot get a pet and lock it in a box, for it is supposed to be seen, beautify your house and make the room lively. When you opt to fabricate the pet rat cages by yourself, you need to know the required dimensions for the pet you have. A standard cage should have 2.5 feet for the length and width, and a height of 1.5 feet.

Provide your pets with a comfortable atmosphere to live and gnaw away the food you give them.

Ensure that the cage is well ventilated and keep it in a location with fresh supply of air. Lockable doors are a must because the rats can fumble around and open the door when you are not around, and the consequences are not pleasant at all. A leveled cage will provide your pet with a close to natural dwellings because it comes with hiding areas, pipes and dangling things to play with.
