The Bull Mastiff is a cross between an Old English Bulldog and an English Mastiff. When full grown the Bull Mastiff reaches a height of approximately two and a half ft. and weighs between 90 and 130 lbs. The size, while intimidating, is not the only thing big about this dog. They are all heart. A Bull Mastiff is extremely lovable, loyal and protective and is very good natured toward children.

A Bull Mastiff forms a very strong attachment to its family members and while the breed is known for being headstrong and independent, with proper training it will always look to its master or masters for permission before acting. They are very wary of newcomers and must be introduced by their master so that they know who is friend and who is foe.

Bull Mastiffs are considered gentle giants and are fun loving, playful and are very eager to please. They love to be talked to and respond to the tone in your voice so discipline in most instances is simply a matter of scolding and showing your disapproval.

Although most Bull Mastiffs live 10 years or less, their life expectancy depends greatly on their lifestyle. They need regular exercise and should be fed 2 or 3 times a day in small amounts versus 1 daily feeding. Never leave food down for a Bull Mastiff to eat at will as they tend to put on weight quite easily.

Bull Mastiffs love attention and enjoy running, rolling and fetching and water sports. They are also great at tracking and protection. In most cases a Bull Mastiff will knock down an intruder and intimidate them with their size rather than through aggression.

Bull Mastiffs are attentive, intelligent and agile. Their main objective is to please their masters and they do so at every opportunity. They are extremely family oriented and fun loving pets. The Bull Mastiff makes a great house pet and serves as a full time watch dogs when it comes to guarding and protecting their family.

Early socialization is a plus when bringing a Bull Mastiff into your home. It is imperative that they are taught certain manners because of their size. Their desire to play is strong and due to their mass, they can knock down a small child unintentionally. Teaching them to be gentle as a puppy will help to prevent accidents as they grow larger.

With the proper love, attention and training, a Bull Mastiff will serve as a loyal and devoted pet and would protect their master with their own life.
