Natural Remedies For Fleas

Many people are starting to look at natural remedies to kill fleas, so they can be done with all the chemical products. There are many things that you can do to naturally get rid of fleas and all of the fleas life stages on your pets and around your home. I am going to give you just a few of these remedies to get you started with your natural flea control.

Natural Remedies For Fleas In Your House

Food grade Diatomaceous Earth is an all natural product that kills fleas and all of its life stages. Food grade DE is composed of fossilized shells from microscopic single-celled algae. It is found on the floors of rivers, lakes, oceans and other bodies of water. Although it is a soft powder to us for a flea it is deadly.

When you sprinkle food grade de in your home on carpets and furniture, anywhere you have a noticeable flea problem, it will kill the fleas and its life stages. The powder is actually tiny shell particles that cut the protective shell of the adult flea causing it to bleed. The powder then is able to seep into the fleas soft body area causing it to become dehydrated and die.

The flea eggs, larvae and pupa stages will also become completely dried out from the de, and will die. All you need to do is sprinkle the food grade diatomaceous earth around your home and on your carpets. Leave it on for 24 hours and then vacuum all the areas that it was put down on. Continue doing this until you are not seeing the fleas any more, remember you need to break the flea life cycle to gain complete control of your flea problem. This will need to be done at least 1 time every week for approximately 2 months to be sure that you've killed all of the fleas.

Natural Remedies For Fleas On Your Pets

A natural remedy for fleas on your pets is garlic and brewers yeast chewable tablets. These tablets cause your pets blood taste awful to the flea, causing it to not want to eat from your pet. These tablets can be bought at pet stores at a very reasonable price, usually about $10.00 for 1000 tablets. You would give this to your pet once a day. Usually pets will eat these right up without a problem, they like the taste of the garlic. Check with your veterinarian to make sure of the dosage you should give to your pet. It might be more or less than 1 tablet depending on the size of your pet. Find more natural remedies for your pets here.

Natural Remedies For Fleas Outside

When we use chemicals to control insects outside we are also killing off natural predators of fleas. You can restore natural predators of the flea, spiders, beetles and frogs, over time but there is one that you can purchase and release into your outdoor environment that will help in depleting the fleas in your yard.

Beneficial Nematodes can be purchased at home gardening stores and on-line. You will want to introduce the beneficial nematodes in very early spring, before the temperatures stay in the 60's at night. The reason for this is that the flea eggs that have been sitting dormant through the winter will start hatching again when the temperatures outside remain in the 60's and 70's at night. You want to get to the eggs before they have a chance to hatch!

There are plenty of all natural remedies for flea control, it's just a matter of finding the right one for you and your pets.
