Cat Allergies

This article is predominantly going to cover the problems related to cat allergies but will also be looking at other similar pet allergies. Cat allergies/pet allergies are a horrible experience for anyone. I love animals in particular cats ( because they are less of a responsibility than dogs ) but with particular cats ( usually female cats ) I suffer with terrible cat allergies - I can't even let them sit on me which always makes me feel a little guilty.

So what causes these horrible cat allergies and pet allergies? It's actually proteins from the cats coat or urine that cause the allergic reaction and it's not nice when it does occur - it's much like hay-fever where your airwaves feel like you have the flu. It's shocking to note that only about 16% of the world population suffer from pet allergies - I myself know of at least several friends that suffer from the same cat allergies as me so I thought the number would be higher.

So regarding cats, what can we expect the symptoms of the allergies to be? The following are a list of the main symptoms:

1. Full nose ( much like a heavy cold ).

2. Rash situations on the skin ( in severe cases )

3. Red-eye, very itchy eye situations.

4. Severe sneezing sessions.

If you are a heavy asthma sufferer then it is probably best if you do not gamble with having a cat in your home - go for another type of pet that is less inclined to cause allergies. I have heard people recommend a powerful air purifier inside the main room of the house to stop cat allergies but again I think this is a bit of a risk for allergy sufferers and I can't vouch for it's effectiveness.

I currently do not own a cat but my elderly neighbor has a male 'tabby' cat that likes to come and go into my house as often as he likes. I'm not to bad with sneezing with him but it has happened on occasions. As a rule of thumb I let him in the living room and most of the bedrooms apart from my bedroom - if he's in the house I keep this door shut at all times. The other family members do not suffer from cat allergies so their bedrooms are fine.

All pet allergies are unpleasant and it really does feel like you have come down with the common cold when they occur - the basically ruin your whole day. I hope you have found the facts on cat allergies included here helpful.
