Pet Rescue - A New Home for Addy

I have just read an article about a dog in Saginaw. It had been left tied to a tree. Dawn Vargas' daughter found it while walking in the woods. She though at first the dog was dead. The dog's collar had cut into its neck probably with pulling and tugging to get free. The injury was crawling with maggots.

Dawn's daughter telephoned her and told her about it. Dawn rushed over and telephoned 911. The dog was taken to the Animal Shelter and it was due to be euthanized later. Dawn had taken a photo of the dog and posted it on Facebook. People saw it and were offering their help with donations. There was even an offer of help from someone in Australia. Dawn had tried to contact veterinarians but could not get anyone to help. Then Michael Manzoni, a veterinarian, offered to take a look at the dog. He found she was emaciated and thought she had been tied up there for two to three weeks.

A trust fund has been set up for the dog, named Addy, by Dawn's daughter. Dawn set about finding Addy a good home but that arrangement fell through. Dawn decided they would keep Addy themselves as she gets on well with her other pets and children.

It is an amazing story and so lucky for Addy that Dawn's daughter took the walk through the woods that day. I don't know how the people who did this can live with themselves. I hope they get caught and punished for committing this despicable deed. I do not know what there reasons were for doing this but if they could not keep the animal, the least they could have done was to take it to an animal shelter rather than let it suffer the way it has.

Dawn Vargas handled all this amazingly. And it is so reassuring to know that there are still a lot of people with kind hearts that were willing to help this poor dog. I am so pleased the story had a happy ending but it is not always the case. Many dogs suffer abuse at the hands of their owners. It is beyond my comprehension how anyone can be cruel to a defenceless animal. Dogs are so trusting and do nothing but offer unconditional love to their owners. I think I will go and give my dogs a big cuddle after reading this story.
