Cleaning Products And Pets

WOW! WOW! I was going to write a short article about cleaning products and what they are doing to our pets. Didn't think I had a lot to write about, but boy was I wrong.

In years past I would be a crazy cleaning machine. I used the same products my Mother would use. She loved ammonia, so everything would get cleaned with ammonia. I remember cleaning the oven with it. We would put newspapers on the bottom of the oven and soak it with ammonia., let it set and wipe it up. Of course I'd be the one to put my head in the oven and wipe it out. This was just a few months before self cleaning ovens (OK, maybe a year or so:), so I learned to really dislike ammonia a lot. But we had a really clean oven and with 7 people in the family it was done a lot. No wonder I developed a terrible sinus problem. But who know? Of course, we did not use gloves. My poor hands would burn and swell up and peel. To this day my hands and sinuses are very senetive.

Let's talk about my second favorite - Bleach. WOW! It makes everything look so white, bright, and clean. The only problem was if you used it you could not stay in the same room. I would open windows, turn on the fans just trying to get the smell out. Of course no gloves. WOW! Was I dumb or what? But the best is I would use an air freshner that contained ethylene glycol butyl ether. When inhaled or absorbed in the skin can cause breathing problems, eitchy eyes, and on and on.

But wait, it gets better! My third favorite is Pine Sol. Love it! Smells so good, cleans and deodorizes, but on the container it states:

Precautionary statement - Hazards to humans and domestic animals. What was I thinking?

I would do a really good cleaning once a week. Mop everything, clean the bathrooms, scrub the kitchen, the WORKS. Had a really clean house, but would notice my babies would look sick and start coughing, but in a day or two they would be fine. I'd be sick too. Decided to change what I cleaned with. Started using vinegar and water, for stains on the carpet, to clean any pee from the floor, and also kills that nasty pet odors. I noticed that the kids were much happier, and when I would clean with it they didn't go run and hide or rub their noses in the couch.

So if your having problems with your doggies. Check your cleaning products. Also one tip; When you wash your dog rinse them with apple cider vinegar, half water half vinegar, then rinse. FYI; vinegar helps to restore the natural ph of the skin.

Wayne still complains about the smell , but tough your alive to smell it!!! Enjoy!!
